Webinars and teleconferences are a significant investment of time and money. Posting the recordings online and sharing the slides are useful, but to see the greatest returns, organizations should look at this content through new lenses.

Conference recordings can help amplify your message and engage current and future audiences long after your event host thanks everyone for attending. And often all you’ll need to do is leverage your company’s existing collaboration or messaging apps.

Use your event’s Q&A to do more than clarify the presentation’s talking points.

  • Create an interactive poll to quiz viewers
  • Keep the tone light. People shouldn’t feel they are taking a test.
  • Think of creative ways of displaying questions. For example, find images that reflect each question or use one of the many survey tools online to create unique and visually interesting surveys.

Use the presentation as part of an asynchronous meeting. (An asynchronous meeting is essentially a virtual event or communication that doesn’t happen in real-time.)

  • Conferences often spur the need for further collaboration, with project teams and committees being formed based on what was presented during the webinar.
  • One of the benefits of asynchronous meetings is the relaxed atmosphere for reviewing and reacting to meeting materials. Even the quietest team member will have the time they need to contribute to the discussion.
  • Recordings can provide useful background information, highlight key points on the agenda, and give examples of topics in need of further discussion.
  • Create timestamps to help attendees find the most pertinent pieces of information.
  • In addition to uploading a recording to your own site, you can also opt to share it on youtube, a hosted archive, or your organization’s intranet.

Regardless of how you choose to repurpose your conference materials, using survey and messaging apps will help encourage feedback and brainstorming. Make sure there is at least one staff person assigned to actively monitor these interactions.

Being able to post new answers or ideas in direct response to a new question or comment keeps the conversation dynamic even when people aren’t attending live.
